Calving Season

In the southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains, over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born in just a few weeks, attracting predators in a dramatic display of life and survival. Best viewed from Songa Migrational Camp (south) and Mwiba Lodge in complete privacy.

April – June

Rutting Season

As the rains begin, the herds move northwest and males battle for dominance in loud, fierce clashes. The journey leads them to the Grumeti River, where crocodiles await. Stay close to the action at Mila Tented Camp.

July – October

Crossing Season

The northern Serengeti hosts the most iconic phase of the migration — dramatic, often deadly crossings of the Mara River, unfolding daily at multiple points.

November – December

Journey South

Prompted by short rains, the herds return south, recrossing the Mara River and trekking back to the calving grounds, completing the annual migration cycle.
